The foundation of Leconfield Wines dates back to 1974 when 76-years-old wine specialist Sydney Hamilton acknowledged the potential of the now-renowned Coonawarra region to realise his dreams of crafting classic Cabernet Sauvignon. With over 60 years of experience as a winemaker, he chose a fine piece of land enriched with Terra Rossa soil and named it Leconfield. Ever since that time, there was no going back for him and he went on to successfully build the esteemed brand that Leconfield is today in the wine industry all over Australia.

Crafting rich, elegant and sensual wines for wine geeks has always been the top priority of Leconfield Wines. Although the brand has many a wine to its name, we at Just Wines thought of compiling a list comprising all our favourite ones. It for sure will come in handy for you when looking to buy wine online. Thank us later!

Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Since its release in 1976, this red wine has been very dear to wine buffs all across Australia. Elegance and depth are the signature marks of this Cabernet Sauvignon. While making this wine, the winemaker makes sure that the oak augments the fruit but in no way dominates it. This Cab Sav manifests the traits of the Coronnawarra terroir, and why it shouldn’t! The fruit is cultivated in the vineyards that are nurtured by rich Terra Rossa soils the region is famous for. This full-bodied red attributes its complexity to fine tannins, balanced acidity and fragrant French oak. Flaunting dense red colour, the wine releases fragrances of ripe cassis and blackberry complemented by cinnamon and cedar thanks to the maturation in French oak. Its textured and silky tannins act as the cherry on top. The bright and clean finish of the wine leaves you craving for more. Pair it with the finest venison and beef, and make each sip of this delicacy count.

Leconfield ‘The Sydney’ Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Living up to its name, this gem of a Cab Sav is meant to be reserved by all means. Made from the premium quality grapes that are handpicked from vineyards during the harvest, this red wine features structure, elegance and everything that is expected out of a red from the Coonawarra region. Its silky tannins and persistent flavours make this full-bodied wine all the more irresistible for wine lovers. Giving away the whiffs of complexed ripe cassis along the cedar nuance arising from French oak, it features a beautiful deep red colour with crimson shades. Make the most of this stylish red by relishing it with risotto, spanakopita and spring lamb. What more could you ask for, right? Wrong! The wine is crafted to be enjoyed the moment you lay your hands on it. Having said that, it can also be kept in the cellar for the next 10 years. Makes for quite a win-win situation.

Leconfield Coonawarra Merlot 2019

Not for nothing has Leconfield earned a reputation as one of the top producers of Merlot across Australia. The fruit is sourced from Coonawarra vineyards that have been planted as many as 40 years ago or so. The rich clay content of Terra Rossa soils provides much-needed nourishment and hence paves the way for this red that’s nothing short of elegance and finesse. Bright dark ruby in colour, the aromas of cloves and cinnamon dominating that of the cherry fruit best describe the nose of the wine. Brimming with flavours of ripe plums, the wine owes its length and tenacity to round, long tannins. When it comes to pairing this wine, roasted pork, nasi goreng, and Peking duck are your best bets in foods.

Leconfield ‘Old Vines’ Coonawarra Reisling 2020

Leconfield Reisling is well-known for its flavourful fruity characteristic and is loved by almost every wine enthusiast who’s more into mouth-watering whites than reds. Crafted from the tangy fruit grown in mature vineyards, this 45-year-old wine retains elegance and finesse like no other riesling. It is a full-bodied wine that features beautiful pale straw colour accompanied by green hues. This dry white gives away the whiffs of vibrant floral perfume partnered with zesty lime. The mid-palate texture of the Leconfield Reisling leads to a clean and crisp finish supported by a light refreshing spritz. One feature that distinguishes this wine from its contemporaries is that it tastes as good as young as it will after attaining toasty complexity 6 to 8 years down the line.

Leconfield Syn Rogue Coonawarra Sparkling Shiraz NV

Last but not least of Leconfield wines that have rightly made it to this list is sparkling shiraz which manifests sheer finesse and elegance in its making style. Having matured in oak and derived its natural effervescence from secondary fermentation, this complex red is liqueured for a creamy palate. Bright scarlet in colour, the wine pleasantly smells of fresh raspberry fruit. Lively cherry and raspberry flavours dominate the palate of this beautifully balanced shiraz. Owing to its earthy flavours, this red gives a soft finish completed with cleansing acidity. Although this delicacy can be enjoyed on its own when served chilled, you can also get it right by savouring it with poultry foods or canapés.
