Heartland Wines: Where the Owners Feel Pride in Creating Something Tangible
ou must have heard people saying that “Passion drives purpose”. Well, where some people say it, there are some who live by it. One such person is Ben Glaetzer, winemaker turned owner at Heartland wines.
It was his passion that made him excited about the outstanding quality of fruit grown in Langhorne Creek and led to the creation of Heartland Wines in the late 1990s.
Over the years, Ben has made a mark in the wine industry by receiving innumerable accolades to his name. This has gained him immense recognition and fame in Australian and international winemaking. Although he’s quite young by winemaker’s standards but age is no yardstick to measure talent and passion.
As of today, Ben with industry veterans, Scott Collett, Grant Tilbrook and Nick Keukenmeester have nurtured Heartland and made it an award-winning winery.
Ben is obsessed with Langhorne Creek, therefore, Heartland makes only red wines with fruit sourced from Langhorne Creek only.
The wines at Heartland are made after evaluating the vines, the soil and the time taken in barrels for fermentation. This attention to detail is what gives the best end result.
The makers want you to feel the moment when you open the bottle of Heartland and feel all those sensations they have strived to include in it. This is the exact moment when the aromas, texture and flavours combine well to fill your senses.
Now that you know about the winery, it’s time we introduce you to one of its impeccable wines, Heartland Shiraz Langhorne Creek 2019. It is a lovely, rich and balanced Shiraz from Langhorne Creek and the Limestone Coast.
The intense colour makes the wine appear dense and layered with black fruit. You will feel the aromas of anise and cracked pepper coated in classic blackberry flavour. Along with this, a hint of mint appears on the palate with the addition of a small amount of Limestone Coast fruit. The balance of fruit is a perfect counterpoint to the structure imparted by oak and skin contact. Delivering a fleshy texture, this wine is soothing and splendid in its appeal.
This wine is a nice departure from his usual big Barossa styles and a perfect food match for lamb cutlets or Napoli-based pasta dishes.
