De Bortoli Wines: From Castelcucco to Australia’s Most Prestigious Wine Award
The quest for a better life brought Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli to New South Wales all the way from the alpine foothills of Italy.
The couple established De Bortoli Wines in 1928. Their dedication, hard work, and determination not only helped them achieve their dreams but also establish a lasting legacy.
Their three children also contributed to this legacy but it was Deen who took charge and used his innovative skills to ensure a bright future for De Bortoli Wines. His wife, Emeri joined him when he decided to bring in new technology in the picture without compromising on the quality or value of the wines at De Bortoli.
The drive to advance in the wine industry made De Bortoli Wines win Australia’s most prestigious wine award, the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy for best young red in 1997, and this was only the beginning of their great success.
From there on, it followed a series of awards, recognitions and rewards and this love and support made them conscious of their responsibility towards the society. They decided to adapt sustainability with a goal to become a ‘zero-waste’ winery. This initiative too made them get recognition across different platforms.
In 2021, the winery became a certified member of Sustainable Wine growing Australia.
This story portrays determination and triumph of a hardworking and innovative family who made Australia their home and is whole heartedly contributing to the wine industry keeping sustainability at the core.
